This block was just re-bored and stick honed by an engine reconditioner. The owner read my article and was also convinced that this was the way to go. I know which bore finish I prefer. Take note of the inconsistent finish of the two left bores. 20 seconds of flex-honing has corrected all the faults of the stick-hone and given the bore a beautiful plateau finish.
You know, I am not attacking the engine reconditioner here. He has to use the stick hone to size the bore, he has no choice in the matter. What has got me stumped is why not all engine reconditioners are using them.
