Toyota Coaster 1HZ No Start diagnostics & Repair |
So a quick intro to the problem. A few small trips were done earlier this year to sort any teething problems before we went on a longer trip. It was on the big trip that I noticed a surge every now and then at cruising speed which for this thing was about 85-90kph. I got the bus home without any drama and thought nothing of it, until I started the engine about four months later. Engine started fine, warmed up fine but once I held the throttle up a bit it seemed to be missing. It was noticable above 1200rpm. A few more weeks past and I started the engine again. It started fine again but this time it was much worse above idle with a lot of white smoke coming out the tail pipe while it was missing badly. So right now I am getting concerned of what it could be. A few days later, it started fine again but this time the missing occurred not long from start up. It got so bad, that the engine would not rev at all from idle, white smoke everywhere and in a short space of time it konked out never to start again. Oh dear, now I have to work out what the problem is and fix it. White smoke from a diesel indicates incomplete combustion, so what causes no combustion in a diesel? There are several things I could mention but logic would easily remove several of them from the list. The video explains the elimination process and how to do a few tests to eventually end up with the fault. Not quite everything I have covered in the video is in the 1HZ engine manual that I have made available for you. It is a 1990 version, so some specs could be different to your engine but the procedures for dismantling and re-assembling should be the same. It also covers the 1PZ and 1HD-T engines from that era as well. Download 1HZ Engine Manual here.
