SU - HS style

Very popular british carb.

For HS type carburettor's with brass floats carry out this procedure. The correct way to set the float level is to hold the float chamber lid inverted with needle valve held in the shut-off position by the float arm only. In this position a 5/16" rod should fit between the float arm and the top of the lid.

Plastic float.

Hold the float lid assembly in the inverted position and measure the gap between the float and the lid. For the early type of plastic float with a metal lever arm the gap should be between 0.125" and 0.187". Small adjustments can be made by bending the metal lever arms. If more adjustment is required this can be done by changing the washer under the needle seat. I see a lot of badly worn float arms where the pin goes through the lever. If it is sloppy and can't be repaired then consider swapping over to the later model plastic floats.

For later all plastic floats the clearance should be between 0.062" and 0.187" but this type is not adjustable. Same again the washer under the needle seat is the only way to adjust the float level in this model. Sometimes the needle and seats used in cheap carb kits will cause a problem here. Fuel Miser kits are best used here.
